Maple Roch From the Inside: Emily's Corner 4

Hello everybody. I am back for another summer at Maple Roch. For those of you that don’t know, my name is Emily, and this is my second summer at Maple Roch. I am a second-year anthropology student at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan). Although the COVID-19 virus impacted the last few months of school, I was still able to have a great time at university and meet some amazing people. Now I am back in Summerland and things are very different. Many shops have implemented rules surrounding COVID-19 spread, including Maple Roch.

At the shop we have hand sanitizer at the door for customers, designated areas for personal belongings, screens, and any food or samples have been put in containers for minimal contact. This includes our ice cream. The entire shop will also be wiped down every hour.

Alongside all the new rules and regulations, the shop is also undergoing massive changes. If you have walked down main street, you have no doubt heard the loud bangs and booms of construction happening behind the thrift shop and our shop. This is because we are building a brand new Warehouse behind our shop to expand our business! It is a very exciting time but also a very loud one. If you come by the shop, do not be alarmed by the nail guns and cement mixers, that is just the hard-working construction workers building. We thank you for being patient in this time and encourage you to follow our social media to keep up to date on all the goings on in the store.

We are hoping that despite the construction, lack of markets, COVID-19, and the other troubles that summer holds, we will have a great summer and that you will all come in for some ice cream and enjoy yourselves!
